The percentage refers to the openness factor — the amount of open space in the fabric weave.
2% openness has a tighter weave and is the strongest option for daytime privacy, glare reduction, heat control, and UV reduction. The trade-off is that the view out is more limited than with 5% or 10% fabrics.
5% openness is the most popular all-round option because it balances daytime privacy, glare control, heat reduction, natural light, and view. It is often the safest starting point if you want sunscreen blinds that do a bit of everything well.
10% openness gives the clearest outward view and lets more light through, making it a good option for rooms with a garden, water view, rural outlook, or elevated position. It still reduces glare and UV, but not as strongly as 2% or 5% fabrics.
Colour also matters. Darker sunscreen fabrics are easier to see through and often reduce perceived glare better, while lighter fabrics can reflect more heat but may appear brighter when direct sun is on the blind.
For night privacy, openness factor helps only slightly. Sunscreen blinds are designed for daytime privacy, glare control, UV reduction, and view — if you need privacy after dark, pair them with blockout blinds.
