How do Blinds Online operate, how do I get a quote?

A.

The biggest misconception people have is that Blinds Online is an online blinds business, only. While we do supply DIY clients, we also look after clients needing the measuring and installation done for them. Giving a brief history lesson (to show our strengths, experience, and where we've come from), Blinds Online started by cleaning and repairing ALL brands of blinds. We added new blind consults as we were so often asked, 'which blinds were best'. Today we help both DIY and SERVICE clients and you customise the approach that works best for you. We supply instructions to assist DIY clients toward getting the measuring and installation done correctly and confidently. For those of you needing the final measuring and installation done, we come to you – provided you're near one of the main NZ centres we cover.

An importance difference to be aware of when dealing with Blinds Online as a service client is that first step. We encourage you to send in measurements for an initial quote. Blinds Online don't provide free in-home consultations. No one does! We're just upfront about it. To send an employee out in a vehicle to someone's house is a cost of business and all businesses need to factor this in to the final price you pay. The free quotes you get are the ones you didn't accept, however the quote you did accept had the jobs they missed factored into the price as well. That's business. I encourage people to send in approximate dimensions to start with for an initial quote. This way a quote can be done quickly and you get a perfect idea of where Blinds Online sit in the market and in relationship to your budget. All without giving up your time and effort to meet us at home. It also cuts back on costs for us both and really focuses in on assisting our clients keen to do business. For those of you with new homes where the thought of measuring all the windows is a barrier to doing business; I can quote off a 'window schedule' that should be available through your builder as a PDF. Email that in with an idea of what products you want, where. And I'll have you a quote we can discuss, before you know it.

I know this approach is different, however it seems to work well for 95% of people approaching Blinds Online. In this time Blinds Online have only had 2 negative reviews from which I have learnt lessons and made changes to future proof both you and me. Blinds Online focus on delivering the easiest and most informed process. Right from your initial enquiry or question, through quoting, ordering and all the way to receiving your blinds and beyond. There are always areas I'm looking to improve and with your feedback Blinds Online continues to get better and better.

You also predominantly deal with me, the owner, which provides a dynamic and level of ownership not commonly available elsewhere. Another key difference from pretty much all other blind businesses is that I pick and choose which products and components, across different price levels and ranges, that I supply to you. I'm like you in the process of choosing blinds except potentially better tasked to make informed product decisions with my 11 years experience. I'm constantly evaluating and comparing blinds online products. I'm not constrained to using any particular brand, product line, parts or manufacturer. You don't often get the best roller blinds from the people that do the best venetians, or shutters, or honeycomb blinds etc. Different manufacturers have different strengths and experience, so I pick, choose and spec what's best, weighing up price, value, support and true lasting quality. My prices are fair and sustainable for products that last and operate well. Blinds Online sit above much of the crap available in the blinds market, that doesn't last, and sit below the inflated prices of many large retail brands. An important aspect leading me to be able to detect lasting quality or not is from the 7 years Blinds Online spent cleaning and repairing all brands and makes of blinds. This all makes for great unique reasons to do business with Blinds Online and I welcome your enquiry.

Are you factoring in replacing cheap blinds sooner than you expect? Blinds Online don't compromise on the quality of any of the products supplied for good reasons. Us remaining friends long into the future is one reason. I encourage people not to buy cheap or readymade blinds, as experience has shown they simply don’t last. True quality blinds are made with superior manufacturing practices and experience. They also use superior components and reputable fabrics, all made with New Zealand's higher UV conditions in mind. They also operate smoother and more reliably than cheap blinds.

You end up paying more in the long run for cheap blinds. I have personally seen this over and over again having run a blind cleaning and repair division for 7 years from 2008 – 2015. I still frequently come into the picture after people have learnt the hard way that 'cheap blinds cost more'. After a bottom-rail falls off, a control mechanism breaks, fabric frays, parts become brittle, etc etc. Blinds Online supply solutions that last and investing in lasting quality blinds save you time, energy and money in the middle to long term. Learn the right questions to ask potential suppliers on each of the specific product pages and avoid learning cheap blinds cost more, the expensive way!

No, no, no...I encourage people to buy lasting quality blinds; not cheap or readymade blinds. Factor in replacing cheap blinds sooner than you'd expect. Even more so for rentals where the same level of ownership and sense of having spent good money for blinds isn’t always present in the way blinds are treated and operated. Blinds need to be robust and have a good level of lasting parts to protect them from people as well as the outside environment. I don't compromise on the quality Blinds Online supply for good reasons. Cheap blinds simply don’t last and I've seen this time and time again having run a blind cleaning and repair division from 2008 to 2015. In this time a third of Auckland's hundreds of property managers used Blinds Online. I've seen all makes and brands of blinds and know the importance of investing in lasting quality. Blinds which have been made using superior manufacturing practices and experience. Parts and fabrics that have actually been designed and made for New Zealand's high UV conditions. Not just imported as the cheapest parts that can be found to sell at the lowest price. I explain how to ensure you're choosing lasting quality blinds on each of the different product pages.

Blinds Online did extensively clean and repair blinds of all brands and makes for a period of 7 years however now focus on supplying new blinds, shutters and awnings. The period spent cleaning and repairing all blind brands has set me up to know intimately what lasts and what doesn't; blind supplier wise, componentry wise and what procedures and processes (or lack of) lead to shortcomings down the track. Blinds Online supply and spec materials and procedures that avoid the supply of inferior made blinds.

For cleaning and repairs my recommendation is to use Bruce Jones and his company, Onsite Blind Cleaning & Repairs. Bruce has nearly 20 years experience cleaning and repairing blinds and is my pick of the companies that provide these services. His team would welcome your business or enquiry. We use different freight and courier companies depending on where you are situated in NZ, and what length your packages are. Your order may come from different factories and be split across different courier companies depending on what you've ordered and the package sizes. Once your blinds online order is despatched, the factory will advise me and I'll give you a heads up that they are are on their way to you. Generally speaking orders travelling within Auckland are the same or next day, depending on what time of the day they left us. The top half of the North Island is 1–2 days. The rest of the North Island, 2 days. South Island 3–4 days. If you're in the depths of somewhere rural I'd add another day to be safe, before panicking. I find depending on where you are in NZ, if there is a weekend or a holiday in the mix, and if the blinds transition through a depot on their way to you, this may add another day. If the courier has missed you they should leave a card and you can arrange a new delivery time. Courier companies can have a mind of their own at times, I find; please remember we are not the courier company. If you feel your blinds are taking longer than the guidelines here, please do get in contact with me though and I'll make some enquiries.

Packages need to be signed for. Please also read the FAQ, 'Is there anything important I need to know when receiving my Blinds Online blinds?', below.

A.

Yes there is. Please always sign for your blinds as ‘SUBJECT TO INSPECTION’, regardless of how packages look from the outside. If there’s visible damage to any of the packages, sign as ‘DAMAGED’. Once you've accepted and signed for your blinds in a way other than above we cannot make a claim with the freight or courier company for damages (if there are any). Don’t panic, damage isn’t common, however in the event something is broken then we're in a good position to claim against the courier company. But only if packages are signed for as above. If goods have not been signed off as above and turn out to be damaged, any replacement charges are the responsibility of the receiver (you). So please remember to sign for blinds as either SUBJECT TO INSPECTION or DAMAGED, as applicable. All blinds online blinds have been test operated and leave the factory in perfect working condition, free of damage.

Blinds Online cater for both DIY and SERVICE clients nationwide. We're everywhere in the online sense! I encourage people to start their journey with us by sending in rough measurements and an idea of what they want to begin with, for an initial quote. All blind colour samples can be viewed online in the COLOURS section of each product page, or for rollers and romans, within their 'fabric selector' pages. If the quote looks good we can certainly send out physical samples for you to view. If you're a SERVICE required client wanting to proceed (within Auckland), Lawrence will have all the samples with him when he visits to measure up. I don't have my out of Auckland installers set up with all the samples so if you are out of Auckland I'd be sending samples to you directly, irrespective of whether you're DIY or SERVICE required.

Our showrooms are predominantly in Auckland and scattered depending on what product you wanted to view. All showroom viewings are by appointment only, just so I can ensure someone is there for you. Honeycomb blinds can be viewed at Penrose or Mt Maunganui, 9–4pm, Monday to Friday. Our main range of Roller blinds and Roman blinds are at Mt Wellington, 9–4pm, Monday to Friday. Venetian blind samples would be sent out nationwide or with Lawrence if he was coming out to do a site measure, for SERVICE clients, within Auckland. If you've searched for Blinds Online through Google you may see a Milford, Auckland address listed. This is a postal address only and is required by Google for our business listing.
